What Has Your Bad Attitude Cost You?
You may not realize it, but having a bad attitude can cost you a lot. It may cost you money, but mostly it will cost you opportunities, your health, your happiness, and love or friendships. Think about your life and your attitude. You can’t put a dollar amount on most aspects of your life, but that doesn’t mean the loss of some things doesn’t cost you anything. What has your bad attitude cost you?
Look at your past personal relationships. Did you lose a love because of your bad attitude? Did you lose a friendship? Did you prevent love from coming into your life with a bad attitude? Did you cut a new friendship off at the pass? Can you go back and change any of it now with a positive attitude? What about your present relationships? Are they being affected by your bad attitude? We don’t realize it, but we often literally chase people away by having a bad attitude. People don’t want to be around negative people for very long.
Think about your career. How many opportunities did you blow because you had a bad attitude? Were you passed over for promotions? Did you fail to get jobs that you really wanted or needed? Think about the interviews you have had, the questions you were asked, and the responses you gave. Determine where an answer given with a bad attitude or with a negative spin kept you from advancing in your career. Was it worth it? How can you change it in the future?
Take a look at your health - past and present. Bad attitudes create stress and hinder the immune system. Do you have health problems that are being aggravated by a bad attitude? Developing a positive attitude will reduce stress, and help you improve your overall health by boosting your immune system. Laughter really is the best medicine.
Now think about your level of happiness or unhappiness. How has a bad attitude affected your happiness level? What can you do to change it and make it better? What opportunities have slipped through your fingers due to a bad attitude?
Our attitudes have a profound affect on everything - and everybody - in our lives. Having a bad attitude makes things worse, and seldom improves anything. You may think that you are protecting yourself with your bad attitude - but really, all you are doing is making your life unhappier.
